Choosing A Maternity Photographer

Maternity Photography

Choosing the right maternity photographer for your pregnancy photoshoot is an important decision.

With so many photographers in Birmingham and beyond, it can be a minefield deciding on who is right for you.

Here are some tips to help you find the perfect photographer for your needs:

Look for experience: Choose a photographer who specialises in maternity photography and has experience working with pregnant women. An experienced photographer will know how to pose you to flatter your bump, have the knowledge and skills on how to use lighting to enhance your natural beauty, and how to capture those special moments. Our studio has trained specifically for maternity photography and Tianna’s previous career in midwifery is a unique benefit to the safety of women at our studio.

Check out their portfolio: Look through the photographer’s portfolio to see examples of their work, Instagram is a great place to look for most recently updated content. Make sure you like their style and that their photos evoke the emotions you want to capture in your own photoshoot. Consider the editing, the lighting – if it is darker and moody or light and ethereal. Maybe they have the ability to create what you have in mind. You can see our maternity portfolio here.

Read reviews: Look for reviews from previous clients to see what their experience was like. This can help you get a sense of the photographer’s professionalism, communication skills, and how they work with clients. Google is a great place to start, as well as website reviews or Facebook Pages.

Discuss your vision: Talk to the photographer about your vision for the photoshoot. Do they offer a complimentary consultation to discuss what you want to achieve, your style preferences, and any specific poses or props you have in mind. A good photographer will work with you to create a plan that meets your needs.

Consider their personality: It’s important to choose a photographer whose personality makes you feel comfortable and at ease. You’ll be spending a lot of time with this person, so it’s important to choose someone who you feel you can trust and who you feel comfortable around. Visit the About Me section of the website to learn more about who they are and what they are about.

Ask about pricing and packages: Make sure you understand the photographer’s pricing information before you book the shoot. Discuss what is included in the package, how long the shoot will last, and how many photos you can expect to receive. We offer clients a pre-booking telephone consultation, free of charge to talk about what is available and pricing, as well as expectations and what is involved in our sessions.

Book in advance: Maternity photography is increasingly popular meaning often have diaries booked in advance. Therefore it is important to book in advance to ensure you get the photographer you want. Plan to book your photoshoot at least 8-10 weeks in advance of your third trimester to be able to have the opportunity for preferential dates.
