Hello Sunshine in Birmingham

Children and Families

So we finally get to enjoy some sunshine in Birmingham! I am sure I wasn’t the only parent to take advantage of the beautiful weather and went looking for somewhere to take little miss Olivia out for the afternoon.

We decided on somewhere relatively local to Birmingham (20 minute drive for us) where we hadn’t been before.

I drove to Moseley Bog between Yardley Wood road and Wake Green road (Moseley and Yardley Wood) for a lovely walk amongst nature. It has an easy to navigate trail and you can hear the birds singing. There are flowers in full bloom too! This place has a little history attached to it – In fact, it was the early home of a young J. R. R. Tolkien who authored The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit! It was amazing to know that his inspirations to write his books were ignited off by him exploring the area as a child himself.

There is a mixture of wet and dry woodland, birds and other small animals can be easily spotted along the walks. With funding, the area has been improved with boardwalk which is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, with an accessible car park.

The BBC Wild Life website has some great links on local Nature Reserves that are free to explore and child friendly.

Many of these Reserves run Forest Schools and family friendly activities that you can participate in which is great for learning and exploring in Birmingham and Wolverhampton for example. Have a read about them here.

Safety First When Out in The Sunshine – Birmingham

As lovely as the sunshine is, be sure to protect yours and your little one’s skin from sun damage, The Independent ran an article last year about various sun screen products for children.

I would love to know what you have been up to whilst out and about in Birmingham and the surrounding area. Have any tips and places to go for other families? Share them below!

I love everything about this post. We’ve been to a nearby river and spent the day paddling and blowing bubbles.
