I’ve Booked My Newborn Photoshoot, What Happens Next?

Maternity Photography

Congratulations! Other than meeting your new baby, there is no better feeling than knowing their very first, professional photoshoot is booked. I am so honoured to have you book it with me! My Birmingham photography studio is fully equipped to photograph your precious newborn baby including using props, or baby on my state of the art posing equipment or in your arms!

But what happens now? Typically, your session date is scheduled in based on your expected date of birth and 14-21 days of that date. This means we have such good flexibility to be able to offer you a date that suits you, your family  and your newborn baby.

You will receive terms and conditions as well as a form to complete to tell me all about your session ideas. This includes the kind of poses, colours and whether you have other children to take part too. Remember your session does include family photographs so it is great to prepare for those. Like with the Maternity Photography Experience, you will be able to have your makeup styled (and hair) for your session!

To help you with your ideas, think about what colours suit your home and the style of your home. Is it modern and contemporary or traditional and cosy? Do you like minimalism or plenty of storage and places for things to go? These ideas help to form the look of your gallery and inform me of specific wall art pieces that might suit you. Are there poses you absolutely want to have or maybe not so much? Let me know with the questionnaire.

So then what? Well we await the arrival of your brand new baby! Your session date is flexible, I only accept a limited number of bookings per month so I have the room to move about should you or your baby need more time. Once born, I just ask for a little update to see if we can go ahead with the planned date or move it! Of course, if baby makes an earlier entrance, do let me know that too! It is possible to bring the date forward!

Our session together will be aroud 3-4 hours and I will have light refreshments available for your comfort but please plan to be with me for part of your morning and afternoon. The Jewellery Quarter is a wonderful place to explore and so if you have the time in the afternoon, you can visit one of the lovely, local coffee shops or admire the stunning jewellery shops.

Your session time gives us the opportunity to not only photograph your baby but time for feeding, settling and soothing. You’ll learn that my way of working is very baby-led and I can quickly identify an unhappy or uncomfortable baby.

Around 3-4 weeks after your baby’s newborn photoshoot, I will invite you back to my Birmingham photography studio for a viewing and ordering appointment. It is at this session that you will decide on your collection and wall art products!

If you are thinking about booking a newborn session or want to know more about my newborn photography or other sessions available, please get in touch.

Why Printed Photographs Are More Secure Than Digital Files

Printed photographs offer something digital files cannot: true ownership and permanence.

A professionally printed photograph does not rely on software updates, servers or passwords. It exists independently of technology.

When produced using archival-quality printing, photographs can last for generations without fading or deteriorating. They become physical heirlooms that can be passed down through families.

This is one of the reasons fine art photography has always been associated with luxury photography studios and high-end portraiture. Prints transform images from temporary files into tangible pieces of history.

Unlike digital images floating across the internet, a printed photograph remains exactly where you choose it to be.

In your home.
In your hands.
In your family’s story.

Why Printing Your Maternity and Family Photographs Matters

Pregnancy and early motherhood represent one of the most significant chapters in a woman’s life.

These are moments that pass quickly but carry deep emotional meaning. A maternity photography session captures the anticipation, strength and beauty of this season.

Yet when those photographs remain only as digital files, they can easily become lost among thousands of other images.

Printing your photographs ensures they become part of your everyday environment.

A framed maternity portrait in the bedroom.
A newborn photograph displayed in the hallway.
A fine art album documenting your journey into motherhood.

These pieces do more than decorate a home. They create visual anchors for your family story.

Research consistently shows that children who grow up seeing photographs of themselves and their families displayed in the home develop a stronger sense of belonging and identity.

Your photographs become more than memories.

They become part of the emotional landscape of your home.

Luxury Photography Is Designed to Be Printed

Luxury portrait photography has always been about more than delivering digital files.

The intention is to create artwork worthy of display.

Fine art prints, handcrafted albums and museum-quality wall pieces elevate photography from something that lives on a screen to something that becomes part of your home’s design.

The difference between scrolling past a photograph on a phone and walking past a beautifully framed portrait every day is profound.

Printed photography invites you to slow down.

To remember.

To reconnect with the moment that image represents.

Protecting Your Family Memories in an AI World

Artificial intelligence is transforming the digital landscape in ways that are still unfolding.

Images online can now be analysed, altered, replicated or repurposed with increasing sophistication. While many of these developments bring exciting possibilities, they also highlight the importance of safeguarding personal photographs.

Printing your most meaningful images offers a simple yet powerful layer of protection.

A physical photograph cannot be scraped by algorithms.
A fine art album cannot be copied from a server.
A framed portrait remains entirely within your control.

For families who value authenticity, privacy and legacy, print offers reassurance that digital storage alone cannot provide.

Creating Photographs That Last a Lifetime

As both a specialist maternity photographer and a practising midwife, I have the privilege of witnessing extraordinary moments in a family’s journey.

Pregnancy is a time of transformation. It deserves to be documented with intention and preserved with care.

My approach to maternity photography is rooted in creating timeless images that are designed not only to be admired today, but to remain part of your family story for decades to come.

That is why printed artwork and heirloom albums remain at the heart of the experience.

Because the photographs that matter most should never be left vulnerable to technology alone.

They deserve to live where they belong.

On your walls.
In your home.
And one day, in the hands of the next generation.

If You Are Considering a Maternity Photography Session

If you are currently pregnant and considering maternity photography in the West Midlands, choosing a photographer who offers archival-quality prints and albums ensures your images will be preserved beautifully.

Luxury maternity photography is not just about creating images.

It is about creating a legacy.

And the most powerful way to protect that legacy will always be through print.
