Newborn Baby Photography

I am always grateful when clients agree to me sharing some photographs from their session. It is always a plesure to be booked to make some newborn memories for them, to cherish and look at. Seeing how tiny their precious baby was and all of the wonderful little details about them. Baby Scarlett came to me in October, with her parents Honor and David, who were keen to capture her early days as she was growing so fast. She’s an incredibly beautiful baby and was a dream to photograph. It is really lovely to see a snippet of a new family’s journey. Being a midwife, I am always keen to talk about the pregnancy and birth, feeding and generally how they are getting on as parents. Generally I love to share my experience and often we find that there are similarities which is more often than not, reassuring. This makes the environment even more friendly and comfortable for the family to be in, which is really important for clients to feel safe.

Clients always get to choose what colours and styles they like and I enjoy personalising their sessions. I usually take babies into my studio that are under 16 days old, however, I am happy to do newborn sessions for babies up to 10 weeks of age. Although, I cannot guarantee those very sleepy newborn poses because babies become more alert as they get older. My sessions are often 3-4 hours, to allow for feeding and settling of your new baby and now that I have a studio based in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, why not make a day of it after the session and spend some time exploring the local stores, coffee shops or make a trip over to the city centre? Did you know that newborn sessions are n ot just about photographs of your baby? I always encourage parents to take part in the memory making and it is so wonderful to see their pride and love for their growing family.

Scheduling your session is really simple and there are two ways you can do it. You can book in for the newborn photography session online, and receive an immediate confirmation – this works well for clients who have a little time and want to secure their session in as soon as possible. I will then get in touch with you to talk about your ideal session and plans for your newborn baby photographs. What is great about this is that I will receive your booking form and with details on your ideas that we can talk about over the phone. The other way you can book in is by sending an enquiry via this website at the bottom and I can happily discuss any questions you might have beforehand. This works really well too because we get to know each other and you can get a feel for who will be photographing your newborn baby and learn about me, your baby’s photographer.

How wonderful is their family portrait? So much love here. Also, look at Baby Scarlett’s eyelashes? They’re bsolutely beautiful.

Why Printed Photographs Are More Secure Than Digital Files

Printed photographs offer something digital files cannot: true ownership and permanence.

A professionally printed photograph does not rely on software updates, servers or passwords. It exists independently of technology.

When produced using archival-quality printing, photographs can last for generations without fading or deteriorating. They become physical heirlooms that can be passed down through families.

This is one of the reasons fine art photography has always been associated with luxury photography studios and high-end portraiture. Prints transform images from temporary files into tangible pieces of history.

Unlike digital images floating across the internet, a printed photograph remains exactly where you choose it to be.

In your home.
In your hands.
In your family’s story.

Why Printing Your Maternity and Family Photographs Matters

Pregnancy and early motherhood represent one of the most significant chapters in a woman’s life.

These are moments that pass quickly but carry deep emotional meaning. A maternity photography session captures the anticipation, strength and beauty of this season.

Yet when those photographs remain only as digital files, they can easily become lost among thousands of other images.

Printing your photographs ensures they become part of your everyday environment.

A framed maternity portrait in the bedroom.
A newborn photograph displayed in the hallway.
A fine art album documenting your journey into motherhood.

These pieces do more than decorate a home. They create visual anchors for your family story.

Research consistently shows that children who grow up seeing photographs of themselves and their families displayed in the home develop a stronger sense of belonging and identity.

Your photographs become more than memories.

They become part of the emotional landscape of your home.

Luxury Photography Is Designed to Be Printed

Luxury portrait photography has always been about more than delivering digital files.

The intention is to create artwork worthy of display.

Fine art prints, handcrafted albums and museum-quality wall pieces elevate photography from something that lives on a screen to something that becomes part of your home’s design.

The difference between scrolling past a photograph on a phone and walking past a beautifully framed portrait every day is profound.

Printed photography invites you to slow down.

To remember.

To reconnect with the moment that image represents.

Protecting Your Family Memories in an AI World

Artificial intelligence is transforming the digital landscape in ways that are still unfolding.

Images online can now be analysed, altered, replicated or repurposed with increasing sophistication. While many of these developments bring exciting possibilities, they also highlight the importance of safeguarding personal photographs.

Printing your most meaningful images offers a simple yet powerful layer of protection.

A physical photograph cannot be scraped by algorithms.
A fine art album cannot be copied from a server.
A framed portrait remains entirely within your control.

For families who value authenticity, privacy and legacy, print offers reassurance that digital storage alone cannot provide.

Creating Photographs That Last a Lifetime

As both a specialist maternity photographer and a practising midwife, I have the privilege of witnessing extraordinary moments in a family’s journey.

Pregnancy is a time of transformation. It deserves to be documented with intention and preserved with care.

My approach to maternity photography is rooted in creating timeless images that are designed not only to be admired today, but to remain part of your family story for decades to come.

That is why printed artwork and heirloom albums remain at the heart of the experience.

Because the photographs that matter most should never be left vulnerable to technology alone.

They deserve to live where they belong.

On your walls.
In your home.
And one day, in the hands of the next generation.

If You Are Considering a Maternity Photography Session

If you are currently pregnant and considering maternity photography in the West Midlands, choosing a photographer who offers archival-quality prints and albums ensures your images will be preserved beautifully.

Luxury maternity photography is not just about creating images.

It is about creating a legacy.

And the most powerful way to protect that legacy will always be through print.
