Maternity Photography

The beauty of carrying new life can often be overlooked because of the physical stress of a pregnancy. Opting to be photographed during this special time can bring a sense of strength, empowerment and love. Although it feels like an eternity, choosing Maternity Photography to capture precious memories can be the start of a legacy of love to your unborn baby, showing them the love you felt for them before you met.

Maternity sessions can include your family or partner if you so wish to include them in such a special time of memory making. It is only a short time in your life where you may feel apprehensive about having portraits taken. There is nothing more beautiful than the creation of a new life growing inside of you and the strong sense of pride you feel within yourself will stay with you forever when you look back on your portraits.

When Should I book a Maternity Photography Session?

From the 20 week scan, you are welcome to schedule your maternity (and newborn) photography session as soon as you are ready to. I recommend that you come for your portrait session around 32-36 weeks or earlier if you are carrying twins (how exciting!) because waiting any longer may mean you are uncomfortable and your wellbeing is paramount. Plus of course, on the off chance your labour starts! It is also for your beautiful bump to look lovely and rounded too. Sessions are booked with a non refundable deposit of £99 to secure your chosen date and time, this also comes off your package price.

What Happens During a Maternity Photography Session?

Your maternity photography session lasts around 45-60 minutes and involves a variety of flattering maternity poses to enhance your bump and enable you to look and feel your best. There are also changes of clothing i.e. dresses, body suits and I also make use of various materials and fabrics. There is also the option of Art Nude portraiture which can be discussed beforehand, this type of photography is totally dependent on your comfort and whether this is something you would want for yourself. Should you wish for a boudoir inspired session, then we work best with various lighting set ups and slight changes to the posing to ensure you get the best of YOU for your images. I like to work quickly because some poses may be uncomfortable and ideally not the best for long periods. However, if you are unhappy at any point we can find a suitable alternative.

What Comes Next?

Following your portrait session, I invite you back to my home studio where we can view your images together and see what you like best on a high resolution slide show made for you. We go through the images one by one and work out a suitable package and wall art for your home. Once you have decided, your products and prints are ordered and you are welcome to collect them if local/dropped off or they are posted out to you.
