Part of the preparation for a maternity photoshoot, or any photography session is professional makeup and hair.

Choosing your style can be very personal and deciding what to go with can feel a little overwhelming.

Here are some considerations to have when looking for inspiration and how to be makeup and hair ready before your pregnancy photoshoot.

Hair Styling Preparations:

When you are searching for ideas for how to style your hair, consider looking for images that are a similar likeness to your own. This will enable you to visualise the look you want to consider and enable the hair and makeup artist to see your vision.

In order to prepare your hair effectively, please arrive with washed and dried hair, ideally done the night before. You won’t need to apply any products to your hair before your maternity session as the HMUA will take care of this for you.

If wearing any wigs or extensions, please opt for natural hair types as these are easier to style and blend better with your hair. Synthetic hair can look beautiful but pre-styled is best in this instance.

Makeup Preparations:

Please inform us in advance if you have any skin care concerns or allergies so we can take the necessary precautions ahead of time. If you prefer, you are welcome to bring specific products to suit your needs that our stylists can use.

As it is full makeup, you are requested to attend with a makeup free face, with very light moisturiser if needed. Our MUAs will be ready for you on the day of your booking so you don’t need to bring any tools for applying, unless you have a preference to do so.

What Happens on The Day of The Maternity Photoshoot?

On the morning of your session, you arrive to the studio for your maternity shoot and are welcomed in for your Hair and Makeup. Typically this can last anywhere from an hour and a half to approximately 2 hours. Refreshments are provided, snacks and bottled water, teas or coffee. All you need to do is relax, let us take care of you! Listen to your favourite music or tell us about you!
